Sudbury-Manitoulin

In April 2009, nurse over 30 organizations from the Sudbury and Manitoulin area met to learn more about the Ontario Woman Abuse Screening Project. These organizations represented services from the Violence Against Women, addictions and mental health sectors, as well as from the child protection agencies. From this meeting, a core group of agencies formed the Sudbury-Manitoulin Woman Abuse Screening Project Steering Committee with the goals of developing a common screening tool for our region, and to provide cross-training in Violence Against Women, addictions and mental health. Our vision is that all women who enter the VAW, mental health and/or addictions system will be screened for abuse, and that the incidents of violence against women will be reduced.

The Sudbury-Manitoulin Woman Abuse Screening Project Steering Committee has developed a Logic Model, and is now in the process of planning focus groups for women with lived experience and frontline workers. The cross-training will then follow.
